Hidden Words, Hidden Worlds Short Story Workshops

In response to the changing literary landscape, the relaxing of censorship and the opening up of restricted areas, the Hidden Words, Hidden Worlds project spent a year collaborating with regional ethnic cultural organisations and Yangon based writers to deliver short story construction workshops to local community members in seven cities in six states across the country: Yangon, Hpa-an, Mawlamyine, Lashio, Myitkyina, Hakka and Loikaw.

Participants, ranging from journalists to pastors to WW2 veterans from over 16 different ethnic nationality groups, spent five days each discussing issues relevant to their community and how to embed these themes into short story narratives.  At the end of each workshop, a special Live Literature night was held with readings, dancing and singing.
