British Council's Privacy Notice

The British Council complies with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and the data protection laws of other countries that meet international standards. The information you provide will be used to check the eligibility for the contest and for the judges to evaluate your entry. In the event that you win an award, you will be asked to grant permission to use your name and image for the British Council's media purposes. 

By registering for and sharing a video for the IELTS Prize 2025, you agree that your contact details such as full name, e-mail address, as well as your intellectual creations such as videos, images and stories may be used by the British Council for promotional and communication purposes. This may include publication on the British Council's website, social media, print publications and other media channels at home and abroad. 

The personal data and content you provide may be transferred to and processed by British Council offices or British Council authorised partners overseas, including the United Kingdom, in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We may also share your information with third parties (in this case, a marketing agency) to assist the British Council in administering and coordinating prizes. These entities have been contractually bound by a contract to process your information in accordance with our security standards. If you are selected as a finalist or winner, your name and content will be made public.

We aim to use the contact information you provide to send you information about activities, services, and events (including social events) that we think may be of interest to you. You can unsubscribe from receiving information at any time by clicking on the "Unsubscribe" link in our communications. The processing of personal information for this purpose will be based on your consent.

You have the right to request a copy of the information we are storing about you and to request correction if there are any errors. If you are concerned about how we use your personal data, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with an information security authority. The British Council is the data controller responsible for the collection, processing, and protection of your personal data.
