British Council IELTS Prize 2025: Winners Announced in Myanmar

Yangon, Myanmar, 3 December 2025 — The British Council is delighted to announce the winners of the IELTS Prize 2025 in Myanmar.

The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is a globally recognised English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. Through IELTS Prize, the British Council spotlights the unique journeys of test takers from preparing for the test, to finally achieving their goals of pursuing higher education, advancing careers abroad, or accessing global work opportunities. Through this initiative, the British Council stands as a trusted partner, fostering a community of individuals driven to overcome challenges to pursue their dreams.

Each winner receives MMK 4,500,000 towards tuition fees at an English-speaking university, helping ambitious individuals pursue world-class education and broaden their horizons.

This year, the competition was open to IELTS test takers residing in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Myanmar who took the test with the British Council between 1 April 2024 and 25 September 2025. Applicants shared their IELTS success stories through short videos and essays, highlighting how IELTS helped them overcome challenges and prepare for global opportunities.

Following a competitive selection process, five winners have been chosen in each country. The winners in Myanmar are:

  • Aye Chan Thar
  • Myo Min Khant
  • Min Thant Han
  • Thoon Than Thar
  • Zwe Mon Aung Myo Saw

“Heartfelt congratulations to Aye Chan Thar, Myo Min Khant, Min Thant Han, Thoon Than Thar, and Zwe Mon Aung Myo Saw—our outstanding IELTS Prize winners from Myanmar this year. Each of you has shown remarkable perseverance and dedication in pursuing your academic and professional dreams.
The IELTS Prize is designed to recognise individuals who push forward with purpose, even when circumstances are challenging. This year, many learners faced unexpected difficulties, including the earthquake on March 2025 and other hardships across the country. Yet, your resilience and determination have shone through, proving that ambition can endure even in uncertain times.
We are proud to support learners on their journeys—whether that means stepping into global opportunities, gaining experience abroad, or unlocking new possibilities for growth. At the British Council, we provide the trusted support and high-quality preparation that help learners achieve their goals.” said Helen Sykes, Country Director (Myanmar)

“My problem was my shyness. I hated speaking up and always turned away from the spotlight. But as I grew up, I realised it's not about stealing someone else's spotlight but about being able to express your own self. But the transition from a totally reserved personality to one where I could freely talk to strangers did take time. And in those times, I took my Young Learner Exams (YLE) and IELTS exams with the British Council. The speaking practices from these tests motivated me to speak up more and I believe it was thanks to these that I grew out of my shy old self!” said Min Thant Han, one of the five IELTS Prize Winners.
