The British Council is appalled and deeply saddened at the recent loss of life in Myanmar and we express our solidarity with the people of Myanmar at this difficult time. As a body that champions the values of the UK, we deplore any assault on people’s basic freedoms.

Having built connections in Myanmar for over 70 years, we intend to maintain our people to people commitment by continuing to engage through arts and culture, education and the English language, ensuring our work is fully aligned with guidance from the UK government. As the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations, we believe it is more important than ever to support those who want to gain the skills, confidence and connections they are looking for to realise their potential and to engage with the world.
