In 2015 and 2016, over a period of 8 months, 5 Myanmar literary translators travelled across the country to work with the original writers selected to appear in the English edition of the Hidden Words, Hidden Worlds anthology. They created 14 English language short stories from 8 different languages and 7 different scripts. Lucas Stewart and Alfred Birnbaum co-edited the drafts and the British Council launched the English edition in November 2017, the first anthology of short stories from Myanmar ever published in the UK.
With support from Asia House, the National Centre for Writing and Writing West Midlands, writer and translator Letyar Tun promoted the anthology in a series of launches in multiple cities across the UK. The anthology has been well received, garnering praise in numerous reviews both for the quality of the stories and for its unique linguistic make-up.
